Scorpion

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    His army

Enemies:    Kung Lao, Siro, Taja, Sub-Zero, The Lin Kuei, Shao Kahn

Fighting styles:    KarateTae Kwon DoAikido

PAST

Scorpion was never a child. But Takeda was. Takeda was a prisoner in the Cobolt Mines of Outworld, recruited to fight by the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung. Shang gave Takeda dangerous powers and sent him to fight, defeat and kill the Mortal Kombat champion Kung Lao. But everything did not go as planned, and Takeda was forced to lure Kung Lao into a trap, using Kung Lao’s lover, Jen Reyland. When Kung Lao went to rescue the kidnapped girl, Takeda appeared and before Lao’s very eyes he transformed into the mutant killer known as Scorpion. Kung Lao and Scorpion engaged in a long and fierce battle. When Kung Lao had Scorpion defeated, Jen rushed over and attempted to kill Scorpion herself. But she was not prepared for the deadly fireball which he hurled straight into her, killing her instantly. Kung lao unleashed a final strike at Scorpion, sending him down into the depths of hell. But Scorpion did not intend to stay down.

PRESENT

Scorpion is currently building an army of warriors, all from the Earth realm. His lair is hidden and does not attract attention, and with every day that passes the army gets stronger and stronger. Scorpion does not possess just any army though. When he comes across a warrior, he will personally fight against him or her. Judging by how well that warrior has done against him, Scorpion will decide if he or she gets a place in the army or not. He plans to construct the mightiest force in existance, and to use it against his enemies. He will kill the Earth warriors, he will annihilate Shao Kahn’s forces and he will finally get revenge on that runaway ninja named Sub-Zero. After all is said and done, Scorpion will be standing tall over a universe to call his own.

KOMBAT ABILITY

Attack:
Scorpion is extremely aggresive when he attacks. Once he starts, he will not stop until he hits his opponent. His rapid punches and lightning-fast kicks terrify his opponents into submission, even before he strikes them. Scorpion does fewer acrobatic moves than other competitors, but when he does use them they are ever bit as awesome as his main tactics. Scorpion’s hands and feet are like knives, hurting his opponent even when they block.

Defense:
Normally, Scorpion wouldn’t give his opponents a chance to breath, let alone attack. But their attacks become completely uneffective when he goes on the defensive. Landing a strike on Scorpion requires complete determination and the ability to fight like a master.

Reptile

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    Kreeya, Kiri

Enemies:    Shao Kahn

Fighting styles:    Kung FuCapoeira

PAST

Reptile is part of an ancient reptilian race, originating from the dawn of time. His ancestors were nothing but mindless dinosaurs, but as the years went on they evolved into the civilization that they are today. The race has been living in the realm known as Zaterra for thousands upon thousands of years. But the great empire of Zaterra isn’t the magnificant kingdom that it once was. Because of Shao Kahn, the emperor of Outworld, the realm began to loose its power gradually. Kahn wanted to be dominant and control all realms, including the once independant Zaterra. Though Reptile is officially the ruler of Zaterra, Shao Kahn thinks of himself as the ruler over Reptile. And because Shao Kahn is one of the most powerful men in existence, Reptile will obey his orders to stay out of trouble.

PRESENT

In a determined attempt at independance, Reptile has joined forces with another ruler from a different realm – a queen known as Kreeya. Reptile hopes that by siding with Kreeya and mating with her, then they will spawn countless numbers of indestructable warriors. With Reptile’s blood, the warriors will possess the proportianate abilites of a lizard. With Kreeya’s blood, the warriors will have unravalled skills with deadly weapons. And combining the deadly fighting skills of both rulers, their offspring will be more than a match for Shao Kahn’s power. If all goes according to plan, Reptile and Kreeya will be standing tall of Shao Kahn’s beaten body, and will have his available empire to call their own.

KOMBAT ABILITIES

Attack:
Reptile’s offence is like a rapid-fire machine gun. He loves to get in close and use his superhuman speed to his advantage. He is a highly technical-based sort of fighter, meaning that he can slither out of any tricky situation and shoot a blinding counter attack in a second. The word ‘ninja’ comes into play here, too. Reptile is astonishingly nimble, and most would agree that he is by far the most acrobatic of all the ninjas. The majority of his attacks are involved in some kind of leaping, twisting, rolling or flipping motion. As he is the only fighter who can truly use these moves one after the other in a forward-moving momentum, Reptile is a very formidable figher indeed.

Defence:
Reptile is a master of defense. Well, a master of blocking at least. Reptile rarely ducks or dodges an attack, believing it to be useless and uneffective. He thinks that by blocking and attack, he can send a backlash on his enemy and stun them with a follow up manouevre.

Reiko

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    Shao Kahn

Enemies:    All that oppose Shao Kahn

Fighting styles:    (supposedly) Brute Force

PAST

Nothing is known about Reiko’s past. He is a very mysterious character.

PRESENT

Reiko is currently the general in Shao Kahn’s army. He commands Kahn’s forces in their battles, and when he is off duty, he stays by his master’s side all the time.
Reiko is aware of the war brewing between Shao Kahn, Kreeya and the Earth warriors. He is now more alert than ever, keeping an eye out for incoming assaults and more importantly, watching out for traitors.
Reiko is Shao Kahn’s most loyal servant, and he vows to crush anyone who dares to go up against him.

KOMBAT ABILITIES

Since Reiko does not get into any fights in the series, it’s unknown what style he uses.

Rain

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    Kitana, Shao Kahn

Enemies:    Unknown

Fighting styles:    KarateJeet Kune Do

Episode:   Shadow of a Doubt

PAST

Rain was once a citizen of a great empire known as Edenia. In this place, all of the people had good looks, and all of the people possessed the ability to fight. The queen of Edenia was known as Sindel, who had an equally beautufil and powerful daughter, Princess Kitana. Rain was one of the guards in Sindel’s palace, and he and Kitana became very friendly. But one day, the emperor of Outworld, Shao Kahn, led a surprise attack on Edenia in an attempt to conquer the legendary kingdom. After a battle that lasted for days, he succeeded. Kitana’s parents were killed, and in the midst of all the destruction, she was separated from Rain, who was never to see her again for thousands of years. With his whole world crashing down around him, Rain grasped the last ray of hope to survive…….. and joined Shao Kahn’s army.

PRESENT

Rain is currently one of Shao Kahn’s high-ranked officers, and is regularly sent on assassination missions. After the thousands of years in the emperor’s company, Rain has lost all feeling and emotion that flourished in his once shining soul.

KOMBAT ABILITIES

Attack:
Rain’s attacks have an amazing and strange effect on his opponents. When he connects with a direct hit, the pain his foe endures lasts much longer than it’s supposed to. Therefore he is excellent at wearing down an opponent gradually, weakening their style and focus. At the beginning of the fight, most of the attacks Rain goes for are not very spectacular, ex: spinning kick. He uses these to show his opponent just how vicious he can be. As the fight goes on and as his opponent looses composure, he fearlessly executes dazzling manouevres to finish the off.

Defence:
Very strong and solid as rock. When the timing is right, that is. Rain’s blocking is indeed very effective, but only when he does block. He is maybe a little to eager to attack, and that may be his downfall. When he blocks, he immediately thinks to launch an attack, before considering the possibility of an incoming follow up. Rain isn’t crazy about blocking though, and he much prefers to stay out of the way rather than stand his ground. Although his opponents can’t seem to land a blow on him, that is probably because of his ‘draining’ sort of offence.

Quan Chi

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    Siann (questionably), Vorpax

Enemies:    Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn

Fighting styles:    Kung FuWushu

PAST

Quan Chi’s origin lies in a world unlike all others. This world is known as Netherealm, a place that is so wasted and evil it is only foul spirits, wretched warriors and dead souls who live there. Quan Chi is a sorcerer, one of mighty power and ability. He is very fond of money and valuables, and will go far to achieve such gifts. His main tactic of earning money is to destroy strong and brave warriors of all realms, and sell their souls to people of much higher rank and power. This is what led him to resurrect three unique corpses – Siann, Sora and Mika. These three female assassins where brought back to life for one purpose only, and that is to kill. Quan Chi used them for many years, having them kill warriors and collect souls. But when he came to Earth’s champion fighter Kung Lao and his friends Siro and Taja, the three walking carcasses failed in defeating them miserably. Even after poisoning them with a potion that manipulated their will, Quan Chi still failed to kill them and claim their souls. But that experience is something Quan Chi will never forget.

PRESENT

Quan Chi is now recovering in his hideout, somewhere deep in the forest. His three assassins obey his every command, but sometimes they can be stubborn and may back answer him. This type of behaviour infuriates Quan Chi, and may lead him to cause severe pain on that particular warrior. After Shang Tsung betraying him, he is fueled with rage and is very dangerous. Quan Chi is also hunted down by the emperor or Outworld, Shao Kahn, after Tsung tricked the emperor into believing Chi attempted to kill him. The longer Quan Chi stays idle, the more powerful he becomes. He is already noticeably stronger and more powerful than his enemy sorcerer Shang Tsung, and he is rapidly building an army of undead warriors. It’s only a matter of time before his enemies’ underestimation of him becomes the final thing they’ll live to regret.

KOMBAT ABILITY

Attack:
Quan Chi’s attack power depends on how long he waits before he makes a move. If he is looking to land a strong blow, he will go on the defensive side and wait for the perfect opening. On the other hand, he may want to deliver several weaker blows in succession. His attack can work flawlessly either way. His fighting style is based more on wild swinging moves, and seemingly (and I mean seemingly) careless attacks. But he uses these to a great advantage and can fling his limbs in the exact method necessary.

Defense:
Quan Chi isn’t very fond of standard blocking. He prefers to evade his opponent’s attacks by ducking, dodging, rolling etc. It’s better this way because his blocks don’t look very effective. To be honest, if it weren’t for his beautifully timed evasions, Quan Chi wouldn’t be very much of a contender.

Omegis

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    None

Enemies:    Shang Tsung, Master Cho

Fighting style:    Gymnastics-inspired

PAST

Omegis was once a very happy woman, who was involved in an even happier relationship with a man named Shang Tsung. Shang was to be the next fighter to represent Earth Realm in the tournament Mortal Kombat. His trainer, Master Cho, knew all the secrets to magic, from healing to black magic. Omegis was very beautiful, and working on a potion which would make her beautiful forever, as an immortal. But Master Cho would never allow Omegis to know the secret to an immortal potion. When Shang Tsung had his first match, he abused the rules of the tournament and was taken prisoner by the mighty Shao Kahn, who taught him a lesson he would never forget – how to steal a defeated warrior’s soul. Against Master Cho’s will, Shang Tsung captured a mortal soul, turning himself immortal. Master Cho was made a fool of again when Omegis poisoned him for Shang Tsung using a small cup of tea. As he collapsed, he uttered these words, ‘Achieve what you seek, and be forever cursed by it!’ Omegis and Shang Tsung buried Master Cho alive, before Shang turned on Omegis and escaped through a portal, saying that she was a part of his past. But Omegis hadn’t seen the last of either Shang Tsung or Master Cho.

PRESENT

Omegis lives deep in the forest alone. Day after day, night after night, she suffers. She wonders why she ever even dreamed of becoming an immortal. All she has now is her everlasting beauty and her endless supply of oils, herbs and potions. She treats company with great interest, but will become bitter if she is asked for help. The only thing she ever wants now is to become mortal again. Either that, or death.

KOMBAT ABILITY

Attack:
Omegis rarely finds herself getting into a fight. But when it is necessary to do battle, Omegis uses mainly her abilities as a trained gymnast. Her skills as a martial artist are limited, but makes up for it with her slow but strong flips and rolls. She cleverly turns these moves into deadly strikes which, on contact, cause certain damage to her opponents.

Defense:
Omegis is extremely poor at defending herself. She may dodge and duck under the leaping and swinging moves, but if she were ever caught in a quickfire punching situation, Omegis would find herself face down on the floor.

Noob Saibot

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    None

Enemies:    None

Fighting styles:    I.E.S.A.

Episode:    Noob Saibot

PAST

Noob Saibot comes from the darkest, blackest, emptiest realm of all: Netherealm. Here, he lives as a lot of the other creatures do. All of the beings that exist in Netherealm are corpses, half-dead bodies, hell demons, freaks, creeps, monsters, ghosts or maybe nothing more than shadows. Noob Saibot is a fortunate one, he has been able to maintain his sanity. His actual origin is not clear, but we do know that he is probably one of the most powerful warriors in Netherealm.

PRESENT

It’s not known how he does it, but Noob Saibot has some sort of ability to transport from one realm to the other. It means nothing to him, though. Each universe is identical to the next, in his eyes. His emotion does not vary much: anger, bloodlust, pleasure… that’s about it. Noob Saibot’s body is made from many different (and odd) materials, including the dark, shadows, toxic chemicals, ashes and oil. This unique combination allows him to slide along the floor, or perhaps become one with a shadowy corner.

All of this makes Noob Saibot an interesting warrior, especially to people who will pay him the right amount to annihilate anyone they wish. Any person who is powerful enough can summon Noob Saibot, give him orders and fork out the cash (or perhaps other services) when the deed is done.

KOMBAT ABILITIES

Attack:
Extremely annoying and bewildering to anyone that goes up against him. Noob Saibot keeps a low stance when fighting, making it quite easy for him to roll and sidestep, and making it quite hard for his enemy to land a hit. A vast array of flips, twists and rolls are at Noob Saibot’s disposal, and he uses these skills to execute razor-sharp, unavoidable moves. But some may wonder why Noob Saibot would ever need to use the iron bar, hidden inside the muscles of his arm. He can easily force the bar out of his arm when he wishes, therefore putting his opponents at a severe and unfair disadvantage.

Defence:
The way Noob Saibot moves, the way he switches stances, the way he whips his feet around like they were made of paper. All of this added up and you have a fighter that is almost IMPOSSIBLE to hit. Not only that, his taunting and rhythmic manoeuvres irritate his opponents to frustration, causing them to loose focus and loose important states of concentration.

Mileena

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    None

Enemies:    Kitana

Fighting styles:    Tae Kwon DoNinjitsu

Episode:    Shadow of a Doubt

PAST

Mileena was an exceptionally skilled soldier of Shao Kahn’s forces. Her fighting abilities were above many other of her companions, and the emperor favoured her for it. But a lot of warriors wouldn’t look twice at Mileena, literally. This is because of her unbelievably ugly face: her forehead is hideously low, her teeth are crooked and bucked, her eyes are small and squinty and her skin is wrinkled and rotten. For this, much of the emperor’s minions mistake her to be weak and stupid, and this has caused Mileena to be an outcast.

But Shao Kahn had sympathy for the woman, so he devised a plan against the Mortal Kombat champion, Kung Lao, that involved her help. It was ingenius.

Using his magical sword, Shao Kahn captured Pincess Kitana’s reflection and cealed it inside the sword. he summoned Mileena, and transferred Kitana’s reflection to her face. Within seconds, Mileena was the image of Kahn’s stepdaughter in every way. The emperor promised that if Mileena were to assassinate Kung Lao, he’d allow her to remain beautiful forever.

Meanwhile, down in the Cobolt Mines, a spy named Vorpax reported to sorcerer Shang Tsung about the plan. Being Kung Lao’s arch enemy, Shang wanted Lao to die by his own hand. He told Vorpax to warn Mileena that if she killed Kung Lao, Shang Tsung would return the favour and kill her.

Upon seeing Mileena, Kung Lao thought he was looking at his close friend, Kitana. Mileena had loads of chances to murder him, but after hearing the sorcerer’s threat, she could never scrape up the courage. When she finally did, though, Kitana turned up just in time.

After loosing to the princess and failing to kill the champion, the bottom half of Mileena’s face lost its beauty. Shao Kahn sent her back to the army with a mask to cover the ugliness.

Leaving her Kitana’s radiant eyes to remind her of what she tried to be, he also left her a horrid mouth to remind her of what she really was.

PRESENT

Mileena is still called to the emperor to carry out deeds once in a while, so she hasn’t been totally punished. Her new eyes and forehead are better than nothing. She gets more attention and praise than she used to, but she will always hate the pretty girl who destroyed her lifelong dream.

KOMBAT ABILITIES

Attack:
A very aggressive and vicious fighter, Mileena takes pleasure in hearing her enemies gasp in pain and surprise. Every blow she lands adds another aspect to the fight, as it persuades her opponent to try something else. Although every strike may be hard, sharp and breaking, she never has the exact focus needed to perfect her abilities. Her burning anger sometimes fuels her to attack without thinking, never considering the possibility that it might not be the right kind of move. Mileena is definetely not lacking in killer instinct, but she does have too much of it. She is an expert with the two Sai blades she hides in her boots, and her use of kicks is certainly admirable.

Defence:
Mileena’s defence, however, needs to be much, much better. If she just took the time to think about defending herself, and maybe train that little bit harder, she would be that little bit deadlier. But disappointingly, her defence falls flat on its ass when it comes to blocking a mere kick to the head. Mileena is much more capable than that but her personality sees defence as cowardly and time-consuming.

Mika

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    Siann, Sora, Quan Chi

Enemies:    Shang Tsung, Qali, Kung Lao, Siro, Taja

Fighting styles:    Vale TudoHikka Ken

PAST

Mika was once a rotting corpse, a dead body of something that was never alive. Such a thing can only exist in the horror world known as the Netherealm. There lost souls float aimlessly in the skies and monsters lurk behind every corner. Mika didn’t even have a name before she was found by the gifted sorcer Quan Chi.

Quan Chi had a plan. He would find as many carcasses as possible, and bring them to life as amazingly skilled warriors. Quan Chi was looking to capture as many souls as he could, with the help of his undead slaves. If all went according to plan, Quan Chi could become one of the wealthiest men in existence.

Even though Mika’s life is a million times what it used to be, she is still maltreated by her master, who threatens to return her to oblivion if she takes a wrong step.

PRESENT

Mika is currently staying in Quan Chi’s fortress, where he is slowly trying to build an army of walking corpses, every one of them just like her. She is also after making a handful of enemies, though, so it would be wise of her to mind herself. She has fought many people who had nothing against her. But she has done at the order of Quan Chi, who is the one holding her beautiful body together. And that is good enough for her.

KOMBAT ABILITIES

Attack:
Mika’s main flaw is hidden, but it is proven if you watch her battles closely. When she fights against someone who she is sure she can beat, she will not hold back and will let loose many of her smashing moves. But when she fights against someone she knows has great powers and fierce abilities, she will become frightened and will fight with great hesitation. She can be as quick and as strong and as deadly as she wants to, but her fear is the obstacle that she must conquer the most.

Defence:
Hugely impressive when faced with an average foe, but becomes a little weak against larger challenges. An example of this is her fight against Kung Lao: at the beginning of the fight, she tumbles and dodges any way she can. But then she learns how skillful he is, and becomes unsure of whether to launch an attack or put up a strong defense.

Kreeya

Life Status:    Immortal

Friends:    Vorpax, Reptile

Enemies:    Kung Lao, Taja, Siro, Shao Kahn

Fighting style:    Kung Fu

PAST

Kreeya is the queen of an unknown realm. It is much the same as the others, with only one difference: its the females who do battle. The men in their realm stay put while Kreeya and her armies of warrior women set out, conquering lands to add to the queen’s growing empire.
Not only is she the queen of her race, but she is the mother of every inhabitant. There’s not one person in her world that has some relation to her, and therefore she is the oldest, wisest and most powerful being of her realm.

PRESENT

Kreeya’s first-born daughter, Vorpax, has escaped from the Cobolt Mines and from Shang Tsung. He is a mighty sorcerer who mistreated Vorpax and kept her prisoner in the mines. But Vorpax kept her real identity secret, and she patiently waited for her mother to save her. And so, one day when Shang Tsung was alone, Kreeya sent an army of her fighters to attack the mines. The owner of the mines, emperor of Outworld Shao Kahn, was unaware of this and his forces had to do battle without his leadership. A handful of the women made it into the mines, where they fought and defeated Shang Tsung, taking him and Vorpax out of the tunnels and straight back to Kreeya.
With her daughter safely home, Kreeya has hopes to destroy Shao Kahn’s empire and claim it as her own. Not only that, she plans to take over Earth Realm in the process, by mating with a male from the mortal land and spawning another few thousand more warriors. To aid her in her quest, she has joined forces with the leader of a fallen realm, Reptile. By mating with him, she will have another few thousand fighters at her disposal. if all goes according to plan, Kreeya will eventaully have anough armies to take on the ruthless Shao Kahn and snatch Outworld from his grasp.

KOMBAT ABILITIES

Attack:
She may not look it, but Kreeya is as strong as an ox. She can easily lift a large wooden crate over her head and some of the attacks she lands on her opponents have lasting damage. She took on both Shang Tsung and Kung Lao at the same time for much longer than could be expected. Her speed and reflexes are just as deadly, as she can attack and defend in all directions without difficulty. She has an amazing talent to recover from hits in an instant, making fighting her a hard and fatal task. Her use of sword-straight punching seems blinding and the way she places her kicks is a dream to watch.

Defence:
Kreeya probably learned to defend before she could walk. Her evasive tactics work wonderfully when fighting kick-based opponents, while her mastered blocking experience aids her like magic when going up against more aggressive fighters. Often she will turn an incoming attack the other way by snatching the enemy limb and holding her opponent in place, allowing her to drive in with a strong counter attack or simply throw her foe head-over-heels.
